What PROXYM ER is used for?
It is used to relieve some of the symptoms caused by arthritis (Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid arthritis) such as
- inflammation
- swelling
- stiffness
- joint pain
Talk to your doctor before taking PROXYM ER, if you:
- are allergic to etodolac or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
- have had an allergic reaction to other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines such as aspirin or ibuprofen
- have a peptic ulcer (a small erosion or hole in the stomach or duodenum) or bleeding in your stomach or have had two or more episodes of peptic ulcers, stomach bleeding or perforation
- have severe heart failure
- suffer from fluid retention (swelling of legs, ankles or feet)
- have kidney or liver or kidney problem
- have high blood pressure
- suffer from, or have ever suffered from, asthma or breathing difficulties
- have heart problems, previous stroke or think that you might be at risk of these conditions (for example if you have high blood pressure, diabetes or high cholesterol)
- are a smoker
- Do not use PROXYM ER if you are pregnant or likely to be pregnant, unless your doctor has advised you
- Do not use PROXYM ER if you are breast-feeding
- PROXYM ER may make it more difficult to become pregnant. You should inform your doctor if you are planning to become pregnant or if you have problems becoming pregnant
- Ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
Talk to your doctor, if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines such as
- medicines used to thin the blood e.g. warfarin
- medicines called cardiac glycosides such as digoxin (used to treat heart problems)
- ciclosporin or tacrolimus (used after an organ transplant)
- methotrexate (used to treat rheumatoid arthritis or psoriasis)
- lithium (used to treat mental illness)
- mifepristone (used for the medical termination of pregnancy)
- other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines e.g. ibuprofen
- corticosteroids such as prednisolone
- quinolone antibiotics (e.g. ciprofloxacin)
- medicines used to stop blood clotting called antiplatelet agents (e.g. aspirin)
- diuretics
- Always take PROXYM ER exactly as your doctor has told you
- If you are elderly, your doctor will make sure you take the lowest dose for the shortest time
- Take with or after food. Swallow the tablet whole with water, do not crush or chew the tablets
If you take more PROXYM ER
- If you have taken too many tablets call your doctor or contact your nearest hospital immediately
If you forget to take PROXYM ER
- If you forget to take a dose at the right time, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is nearly time for the next dose
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose
If you stop taking PROXYM ER
- Do not stop taking PROXYM ER without consulting your doctor
Like all medicines, PROXYM ER can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Stop taking and seek immediate medicinal attention if you experience any of the following
- epigastric pain (upper abdomen), vomiting blood, bloody stools, bleeding from the anus, inflammation of the colon, ulcers of mouth, heartburn, indigestion abdominal pain
- allergic reactions such as rash, itching, blistering of skin, discoloration, swelling, wheezing or shortness of breath
- urinary problems such as high blood pressure, feet swelling, passing little or no urine or passing blood. These might be a sign of kidney failure or toxicity
