What RIAX 2.5MG is used for?
- RIAX 2.5MG is used with diet and exercise to control high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) in adults with type 2 diabetes
- It lowers blood sugar by helping the body increase the level of insulin after meals
- It is not for people with type 1 diabetes and diabetic ketoacidosis (increased ketones in your blood or urine)
Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine including, If you:
- are allergic to any ingredients in RIAX 2.5MG
- have kidney problems
- a history of alcoholism
- It is not known if RIAX 2.5MG will harm your unborn baby
- RIAX 2.5MG may be passed in your milk to your baby
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding or plan to become pregnant ask advice to your doctor
Tell your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
If you are taking,
- medicines such as antibiotics
- medicines to treat fungus or HIV/AIDS
- other diabetes medicines, such as a sulfonylurea or insulin
- Take RIAX 2.5MG by mouth one time each day exactly as directed by your healthcare provider
- Do not change your dose without talking to your healthcare provider
- RIAX 2.5MG can be taken with or without food
- Do not split or cut the tablets
- During periods of stress on the body, such as fever, trauma, infection, or surgery
- Your healthcare provider should test your blood to measure how well your kidneys are working before and during your treatment with RIAX 2.5MG. You may need a lower dose of RIAX 2.5MG if your kidneys are not working well
If you take more RIAX 2.5MG
- If you take too much RIAX 2.5MG, call your healthcare provider or Poison Control Center
If you forget to take RIAX 2.5MG
- If you miss a dose of RIAX 2.5MG, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Just take the next dose at your regular time
If you stop taking RIAX 2.5MG
- Do not stop taking this RIAX 2.5MG before doctor tells to do
Like all medicines RIAX 2.5MG can cause side effects although not everybody gets them.

- inflammation of your pancreas (pancreatitis)
- stones in your gallbladder (gallstones)
- high blood triglyceride levels
- pain in your stomach area (abdomen)
- allergic (hypersensitivity) reactions, such as swelling of your face, lips, throat, and other areas on your skin, difficulty with swallowing or breathing, raised, red areas on your skin (hives), skin rash, itching, flaking, or peeling
- joint pain
- upper respiratory tract infection
- urinary tract infection
- headache
- low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) such as shaking, sweating, rapid heartbeat, change in vision, hunger, headache, change in mood
- swelling or fluid retention in your hands, feet, or ankles (peripheral edema) may become worse in people who also take a thiazolidinedione to treat diabetes
