What VEGAZ OD is used for?
It is used for the:
- treatment of mild to moderate active ulcerative colitis and for long-term maintenance therapy to maintain remission and prevent relapse of active disease
- management of mild to moderate Crohn’s Disease and maintenance of Crohn’s Disease in remission induced by surgery or medication
Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine, if you:
- are allergic (hypersensitive) to any of the ingredients in the product or any other salicylates
- have severe liver or kidney problem
- have peptic ulcer (stomach ulcer or duodenal ulcer)
- have a urinary tract obstruction
- have had previously inflammation of the heart (which may be the result of an infection of the heart)
- have chronic lung problems (e.g. asthma, bronchitis etc.)
- Always take VEGAZ OD exactly as your doctor has told you
- The tablets should be swallowed whole with plenty of water without breaking the tablet
The usual dose is:
- Management of mild to moderate active ulcerative colitis and maintenance therapy in adults: 0.5 g four times daily (2 g daily dose)
- Management of mild to moderate Crohn’s disease in adults: 1 g four times daily (4 g daily dose). For patients with Crohn’s Disease in remission, the usual dose is 3 g daily in divided doses
If you take more VEGAZ OD
- If you take too much VEGAZ OD, tell your doctor immediately or go to your nearest hospital
If you forget to take VEGAZ OD
- Take it as soon as you remember and continue taking your tablets as before
- Do not take two doses together
- If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and carry on as before
If you stop taking VEGAZ OD
- Keep taking VEGAZ OD for as long as your doctor tells you
Like all medicines, VEGAZ OD can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

- blood problems such as unexplained bruising, unusual bleeding (for example, nose bleeds), anemia (feeling weak), fever, sore throat
- pancreatis (inflamed or swollen pancreas) and symptoms such as abdominal pain and feeling sick
- acute intolerance syndrome – symptoms include cramping, acute stomach pain, blood and excessive stools (diarrhea), fever, headache and rash
- allergic reaction – symptoms include swelling of the mouth, throat, difficulty in breathing and rash
- hepatitis including liver failure (inflammation of the liver) – symptoms include jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes) and flu-like symptoms
- abdominal pain
- vomiting
- rash
- fatigue
- fever
- back pain
- dizziness
- headache
- itching skin (pruritis)
- diarrhea and feeling sick (nausea)
