What ZOSA L is used for?
It is used to treat,
- Gastro-esophageal reflux disease’ (GERD)
- Ulcers in the stomach or upper part of the gut (intestine) that are infected with bacteria called ‘Helicobacter pylori’
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome characterized by too much acid in the stomach caused by a growth in the pancreas
- Dyspeptic syndrome characterized by anorexia, bloating, a feeling of epigastric tenderness, postprandial headache, heartburn, belching, diarrhea, constipation from delayed gastric emptying related to organic factors (diabetic gastroparesis, cancer)
Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine, if you:
- are allergic to Esomeprazole or levosulpiride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
- are allergic to the group of medicines called ‘benzimidazoles’, (e.g. pantoprazole, omeprazole)
- have hypertension or if you have heart failure
- have severe kidney problems
- have epilepsy
- have osteoporosis
- have vitamin B12 deficiency
- lose a lot of weight for no reason
- have problems in swallowing
Tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- nelfinavir, atazanavir (used to treat HIV)
- ketoconazole, itraconazole or voriconazole (used to treat infections caused by a fungus)
- erlotinib, methotrexate (used to treat cancer)
- citalopram, imipramine or clomipramine (used to treat depression)
- diazepam, phenytoin (used to treat anxiety, relax muscles or in epilepsy)
- cilostazol (used to treat insufficient blood supply)
- cisapride (used for indigestion and heartburn)
- warfarin, clopidogrel (used to prevent blood clots (thrombi))
- digoxin (used for heart problems)
- tacrolimus (used to reduce the immune response)
- rifampicin (used for treatment of tuberculosis)
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
- Swallow your capsule whole with a drink of water
- Do not chew or crush the capsule
If you take more ZOSA L
- If you take more ZOSA L, talk to your doctor straight away
If you forget to take ZOSA L
- If you forget to take ZOSA L, take it as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose
- Do not take two doses at the same time
If you stop taking ZOSA L
- Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor tells you to stop your treatment
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Esomeprazole:
- headache
- effects on your stomach or gut: diarrhoea, stomach pain, constipation, wind (flatulence)
- nausea or vomiting
- benign polyps in the stomach
Esomeprazole:
- swelling of the feet and ankles
- disturbed sleep
- dizziness, tingling feelings such as “pins and needles”, feeling sleepy
- spinning feeling
- dry mouth
- changes in blood tests that check how the liver is working
- skin rash, lumpy rash (hives) and itchy skin
- fracture of the hip, wrist or spine
Esomeprazole:
- low levels of sodium in the blood
- feeling agitated, confused or depressed
- taste changes
- eyesight problems such as blurred vision
- suddenly feeling wheezy or short of breath
- an infection called “thrush” which can affect the gut and is caused by a fungus
- hair loss (alopecia)
- skin rash on exposure to sunshine
- joint pains (arthralgia) or muscle pains (myalgia)
- generally feeling unwell and lacking energy
- increased sweating
- sudden wheezing, swelling of your lips, tongue and throat or body, rash, fainting or difficulty swallowing or breathing (severe allergic reaction)
Levosulpiride:
- cases of QT prolongation, ventricular arrhythmias such as torsades de pointes, ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation and cardiac arrest
Esomeprazole:
- reddening of the skin with blisters or peeling, bleeding in the lips, eyes, mouth, nose and genitals, with joint pain and high fever
- tiredness, weakness or pale skin (low red blood cells), bruising or bleeding more frequently or for longer than normal
- kidney or liver problems
- seeing, feeling or hearing things that are not there (hallucinations)
- muscle weakness
- enlarged breasts in men
Levosulpiride:
- cases of sudden death
