WHAT IS ZOVIR 400MG?
ZOVIR 400MG contains Acyclovir which belongs to antivirals. It works by killing or stopping the growth of viruses.
CONSUMER MEDICINE INFORMATION:
THERAPEUTIC USES:
What ZOVIR 400MG is used for?ZOVIR 400MG is used to,
- treat chickenpox and shingles
- treat cold sores, genital herpes and other herpes simplex infections.
INTERACTIONS:
Tell your doctor if you are taking, have recently taken any of the following medicine such as:
- Probenecid, used to treat gout.
- Cimetidine, used to treat stomach ulcers.
- Mycophenolate mofetil, used to stop your body from rejecting transplanted organs.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor told you:
Take this medicine by mouth
Treatment of chickenpox and shingles:
- The usual dose is one 800 mg tablet taken five times a day.
- You should space each dose by 4 hours.
- Suggested times are: 7am, 11am, 3pm, 7pm and 11pm.
Treatment of cold sores and genital herpes:
- The usual dose is one 200 mg tablet taken five times a day.
- You should space each dose by 4 hours.
- Suggested times are: 7am, 11am, 3pm, 7pm and 11pm.
- You should take ZOVIR 400MG for five days, or longer if your doctor tells you to take.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Taking with food and drink
- Be careful when drinking alcohol as it may affect how ARTIFLO thins your blood.
- You should avoid drinking cranberry juice or taking other cranberry products, such as capsules or concentrates as this could mean you do not receive the correct amount of acenocoumarol.
SIDE EFFECTS:
Like all medicines, ARTIFLO can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.
SERIOUS:
Allergic reactions such as,
- rash, itching or hives on the skin.
- swelling of your face, lips, tongue or other parts of the body.
- shortness of breath, wheezing or trouble in breathing collapse.
COMMON:
- headache.
- feeling dizzy.
- diarrhea.
- stomach pain.
- skin reaction after exposure to light (photosensitivity).
- itching.
- unexplained fever (high temperature) and feeling faint, especially when standing up.
UNCOMMON:
- itchy.
- hair loss.
- hive-like rash.
RARE:
- increases in the liver enzymes.
- effects on some blood and urine tests
VERY RARE:
- reduced numbers of red blood cells (anaemia), white blood cells (leukopenia), blood platelets (cells that help blood to clot) (thrombocytopenia).
- feeling agitated or confused.
- shaking or tremors.
- hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that aren’t there).
- fits.
- feeling unusually sleepy or drowsy.
- unsteadiness when walking and lack of coordination.
- difficulty in speaking.
- inability to think or judge clearly.
- unconsciousness.
- paralysis of part or whole body.
- disturbances of behaviour, speech and eye movements.
- stiff neck and sensitivity to light.
- inflammation of the liver (hepatitis).
- yellowing of your skin and eyes (jaundice).
- kidney problems where you pass little or no urine.
- pain in your lower back, the kidney area of your back or just above your hip.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS:
TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR:
Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine, if you:
- are allergic to Acyclovir or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
- have kidney problems.
- are over 65 years of age.
PREGNANCY AND BREAST-FEEDING:
- If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS:
- Your child’s doctor will recommend ZOVIR 400MG for the treatment of neonatal HSV and severe HSV infection, if your child’s immune system is not working properly.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES:
- Some side effects may cause drowsiness or may impair your ability to concentrate and react. Make sure you are not affected before you drive or operate machinery.
STORAGE:
- Store at room temperature (15-25C).
- Keep this medicine out of reach of children.
- Do not take ARTIFLO after the expiry date.

Q2.If I forget take a dose of ZOVIR 400MG? If you forget to take ZOVIR 400MG, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
Q3.If you stop taking ZOVIR 400MG? Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor.
